Poetry

A Pushcart Prize nominee, Jamila’s work has been published in MUZZLE, Radius, and Third World Press. She is a founding member of the Dark Noise Collective, a multiracial, interdisciplinary group of spoken word artists & performers. Her first chapbook, “The Truth About Dolls” was released in 2012 by New School Poetics Press. Jamila currently serves as Associate Artistic Director of Young Chicago Authors, an organization committed to youth poetry & writing, and is a founding member of the Teaching Artist Corps.

Music

In 2011, Jamila became the frontwoman of soul-duo band Milo&Otis. Their first album The Joy, was hailed as “mold-shattering” by the Washington Post. Their sophomore album Almost Us has been featured in OkayPlayer, JET, and Ebony Magazine. Find out more about M&O at mnosoul.com

Theatre

Jamila’s theatre creds include dramaturgy work on By the Way, Meet Vera Stark at the Goodman Theatre (May 2013) and assistant directing Tartuffe at the Court Theatre (June 2013). Her first full length play entitled All Who Have Sinned was produced at Brown University’s Black Lavender Festival in 2012.
